A Missionary We Support

Rob Kopp

Making disciples in Japan · with SEND International

Tokyo, Japan

Rob is a missionary in Tokyo, Japan, serving with SEND International. His calling is patient, in-person work among the Japanese — one of the world’s least-reached peoples — sharing Christ’s love “in both word and deed.” DiviNav is one of his supporting partners, and we’re glad to introduce him to you.

The work

Rob’s ministry is built on relationships that grow over years, not events that happen once. It runs along three connected paths:

Friday Terrace

His anchor ministry is a warm community for young Tokyo families — especially mothers and children. It includes weekly Friday gatherings, a kids’ English time, monthly “Pancake Sundays” that open into deeper conversations and draw families toward the local church, Bible studies, and seasonal events like Christmas parties and summer park days. With many of the children’s fathers largely absent, Rob and his teammates have become a steady, caring presence in their lives.

University & returnee outreach

Rob hosts “English Chats” with students at Gakushuin University and walks alongside Japanese returnees — people who encountered or met Christ while studying abroad and have returned home to Japan. A central burden here is helping new believers keep their faith alive once they return to a culture where Christians are rare, and connecting them to solid local churches.

Connections in the community

Much of Rob’s witness happens in ordinary Japanese life — over dinners, at neighborhood festivals, in language exchange groups, through church outreach, and among honest conversations across faiths. Increasingly it means walking with hurting people through workplace pressure, depression, and despair — offering both the hope of the gospel and genuine, sacrificial care.

Why Japan

Rob describes Japan as “difficult soil” — a place where the cultural pull of Buddhism and Shinto runs deep, where fewer than one in a hundred people follow Christ, and where being baptized can cost someone treasured family ties. His prayer is to be a faithful, loving, persistent witness, trusting that only God changes a heart.

“Stay faithful and persevering in prayer and vigilance.
For His name, and until He comes.”

Consider Praying for Rob with us

  • For the families of the Friday Terrace community to come to know Jesus.
  • For students and returnees to find and keep a living faith and a church home.
  • For open doors into the lives of men, who are especially hard to reach in Tokyo.
  • For Rob’s perseverance, encouragement, and steady support as he serves far from home.
